Lesson 4 continued -- Direct Object

Read Reading #1 on page 13: Latin Still LIves

Study pages 13-14 about the Direct Object.

The direct object is in the accusative case.
In English, the order of the sentence generally determines the direct object.

Ex:

The dog chased the boy.
The boy chased the dog.

Subject|Verb|Direct Object

In Latin, the order is different.

Nautae Mariam laudant.
The sailors praise Mary.


Subject|Direct Object|Verb

Go to the second section in Diagramming Latin Sentences.... the "Transitive" diagram. It shows the English order.
